As a designer, one always likes something different and when I was a young teenager, I liked a band called “The Inkspots.” If you have ever heard of them, you will realize they were no rock band! OK…never mind the music group, lets look at Inkspots as the new print style for fashion and home. This look is certainly expanding and is forcast to be popular for 2012. The patterns seem to be modern yet retro. The company StudioL2 Design named the technique below ” Ink Blot Cam”. I feel it’s a blend of two styles: batik infused with camouflage creating a modern textural new look. What’s interesting with this fun technique is how a designer treats and uses it on a product. The result is a pattern that is cool, mod and chic. I’m lov’in it!

What’s under your microscope?
As a designer, I love how design brings interest and excitement into our everyday lives. I strongly believe pattern affects our senses and that color and print have an influence on how we feel. Many of us pick prints automatically and subconsciously partly due to our heritage. I also believe each and every one of us have our own unique “ DNA design sense.”( well…that’s what I call it) This is where our creativity speaks out and attracts us to specific patterns. After that ” what is the inspiration behind a prints technique?”
Well, it all depends on the designers vision and what story they want to convey to us. Designers are inspired by various things like nature and fashion but really it can be anything that moves their inner soul which drives their creativity. But that is only one piece of the puzzle. The second step comes from innovation and how the designer wants to translate his story through technology. One print trend surfacing for 2012 is a new technique known as ‘under the microscope.“ Read On…

Hi, I’m Jaima, the queen of print design and I am very excited about my designer pillows. I am getting ready to launch a series of colorful pillows on line. It is a natural progression as I have a history of creating designer wallpapers and prints for over 20 years…it was bound to come to this! They are now on sale in Naples at Chesterdale’s Home & Garden shop. Great to accent a bed, couch or chair! My favorite is the Cockatoo print which was designed from a vintage bird book illustration. The lattice is modern but classic. If you love color, you gonna love my pillows! Here is a sneak peak…

Hello, I’m Jaima, Designer / stylist who is totally inspired by Dorothy Draper. She was such a fabulous designer….I loved her energy and her positive attitude. She accomplished amazing things. Her style was stunning, bold and colorful. She truly lived by her own design rules.
As Dorothy says ” It is just as disastrous to have the wrong accessories in your room as it is to wear sport shoes with an evening dress.”
Hi, I’m Jaima, a designer who loves anything to do with color and prints. I just happened to be out and about at Chesterdales Home and Garden shop, a great store in Naples that specializes in antiquities, resale, consignment and designer goods. I like this shop as it inspires me with new design concepts. While walking around the shop I had an AHA moment, realizing the next trend in design was PATTERN BLOCKING. Read on…

Hi, I’m Jaima, a designer who has been blessed with a natural design talent. I have the ability to put beautiful patterns and colors together which is shown through my jewelry, bags and interior fabrics. I can forecast what the new and exciting trends are going to be and I believe “pattern is the next big trend in fashion and home.”
I don’t live in a sterile world of painted walls. My rooms are usually wallpapered and lots of patterns are mixed into the decor through drapes, upholstery, bedding and accessories. I also love to decorate ceilings! Yes….that’s right ceilings. These designers love it as well.

Yellow is this years fashionable color. I love the sunny disposition that yellow creates as it evokes emotions of happiness and joy. It is a color full of energy and intellect. Yellow also symbolizes wisdom and is known to bring clarity and awareness to people. Drenching your surroundings in yellow can definitely brighten your day and mood.

If your nervous about decorating with yellow, don’t be. You can always start by using a small amount in a room. Just painting a door with a sunny yellow can accent a bedroom to bring color into a room. Bedding with yellow accents helps keep the color consistent throughout the room while white walls keep it looking fresh, balanced and light. The theme is carried into the master bath by using yellow accessories, visually creating a seamless flow from one room to another.

The classic polka dot has been spotted from the runway to home decor. Polka dots aren’t just for kids, they are all grown up now. I think they bring happiness and a youthfulness to an outfit and a decor. The Polka dot lightens up the atmosphere and adds a touch of whimsy to life whether your wearing them or decorating a room.

How to use Polka dots in interiors is easy. First you have to decide what kind of look you want to achieve. Sea side casual, dressy, sophisticated, modern or are you going for a cottage look? To get a casual chic look just add Polka dots as its all about the mix of patterns. Adding in a dot print lightens the venue and is perfect when paired with a classic ticking and Toile wallpaper as in this bedroom. Using contrasting colors in patterns such as the yellow dots against various blues makes the bed pop and creates a focal point.

Many traditionalists are wanting to modernize there looks but aren’t sure where to start. Today the style is known as ” modern traditional” when old meets new. If you want to update a traditional room, adding in polka dots can be the perfect motif. Anthony Wright, the interior designer of the dinning room below uses black and white polka dot chairs to update the furniture which perfectly blends with the stylized wallpaper. The bold lime mixed with black and white dots really makes a fresh designer statement.

An easy fix to add color to a room is through throw pillows. These tonal and simple polka dot pillows freshen the room and instantly add style. Always mix a polka dot with other patterns such as stripes, plaids, damasks, floral’s or Suzani prints. Mix the scale of prints and remember not to have the same size motifs on each pillow. Just like below, we have small polka dots, a plain and a large Suzani print to contrast each other while making a balanced design statement.

You can also add some fun into your decor with polka dot accessories. Bedding adds a lot to a room, especially this gorgeous blue and white Yves Delorme tossed floral and polka dot set. It’s simple, elegant and luxurious in style and feel. Custom upholstering a chair or chez lounge adds spark to any sitting room if you only want a few dots to play around with when it comes to furniture. One piece usually can make all the difference in a room when it is upholstered in a statement fabric, such as this raspberry polka dot. If your not sure how to use a spot motif in your decor then try it out on china first. Kate Spades delicate polka dot china design is subtle but if your ready for a bolder look, then try this red and white china set. To get a designer look, just add one of Madeline Weinrib’s Ikat polka dot pillows to a room as they instantly make a space more contemporary and sophisticated.
